Why and How E-mail Viral Marketing Works
Today in the morning I got a very weird and exciting call.
For starters, I don’t give my phone contacts on my websites and blogs. Some people ask, why do you reserve, the right of contact? For lack of a better answer or just to be difficult, I don’t want to be called. Period!
That was a bit harsh, right?
I agree, Keep reading later on you will learn why?
Back to the caller, we had a long conversation and one of the resounding statement was, “are you really who you claim to be?” I giggled…. contd “Cause if you are you must be really good.” I asked, how did you come to learn about me? He said, “Someone forwarded your newsletter to my in-box” I was like, that’s great, but how did you get my cellphone? “We’ve met before and I saw lots of ‘you’ in the newsletter”
How has my little story have to do with Email Marketing?
What does a virus have to do with marketing?
Viral marketing describes any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, creating the potential for exponential growth in the message’s exposure and influence. Like viruses, such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands and then to millions.
When I started this blog. I was looking for 35 subscribers but for less than a month the number has shot to over 200 active subscribers and counting. My initial introduction message was a bit provocative and had no room for Grey areas, it separated the wheat from the tares. The message is easily remembered and is making tens and hundreds to Google my blog and try to learn more.
The newsletter sent to a few people has become a virus and is getting easily passed on. While on the other side there are readers want to keep my blog a closely guarded secret so that they can have a leverage on others.
My Dad once taught me about gratitude and as a lover of geography he always gives examples in relation to nature. He gave me an example of Lake Victoria and the dead sea. maybe you’ve had the story before and there is no need to repeat again.
The principle lesson is, Lake Victoria has life full of fish because it receives fresh water from rivers in Kenya , Uganda and Tanzania and on the other hand it gives out as much water through the Nile. lake Victoria therefore has fresh water and can sustain life, while the Dead sea keeps all the waters it receives and has thus remained salty and cannot support Life.
Today, give and it shall come back to you. Be the fountain of Life.
While you give, make it Viral.
Clever viral marketing plans take advantage of common human motivations. The desire to be cool and greed drives people. So does the hunger to be popular, loved, and understood.
The resulting urge to communicate produces millions of websites and billions of e-mail messages.
Most people are social. “Nerdy, basement-dwelling computer science grad students are the exception”(borrowed humor).
Social scientists tell us that each person has a network of 8 to 12 people in their close network of friends, family, and associates. People on the Internet develop networks of relationships, too. They collect e-mail addresses and favorite website URLs.
Affiliate programs exploit such networks, as do permission e-mail lists. Learn to place your message into existing communications between people, and you rapidly multiply its dispersion.
If you want to learn how you can make your business, website blog or an idea to be buzz worthy, then refer to my copy of the email marketing report.
If you can design a marketing strategy that builds on common motivations and behaviors for its transmission, you have a winner.
