orgarnic traffic

When companies or individuals are doing their websites, they forget to place a budget to market their websites. When you put a site live and no one discovers it other than your staff, then the objective of making the website in the first place is lost. A website without visitors is as good as dead.

There are three major sources of web traffic or visitors:

  1. Direct
  2. Referral and
  3. Organic

Briefly, direct traffic comes from people who know your site, maybe from a business card or other offline marketing material like flyers or banners and billboard, whereas referral traffic is from other sites linking to you.

Organic traffic comes from search results, where potential clients land on your web page by doing a search on various terms on a search engine, your page shows up and they click on it. Most people on the internet are looking for information that can be able to solve their problems. If your site is one that offers such solutions, then it should be visible on search engine results pages.

To make sure your site is visible on search results you need to submit it to be crawled by search engines. The major search engines being Google, Yahoo Search and Bing (formerly MSN Search), this enables your site to be included in search results from between 48 hours to 3 months. Once you have been indexed any content you put thereafter in that domain will be easily indexed by the search Engine crawlers.

For your content to remain relevant to the keywords your target clients use: you need to update your website regularly. It’s therefore preferred that you install blogging software on your domain where you can keep on putting new content from time to time without interfering with existing content on your original website home page.

Due to increased competition and lots of websites having quality content search engines are having trouble determining which site to be shown on the first page of search results. They therefore use another Linking factor, where if there is other websites linking to your site it gives you a plus over your competitors. Link building is becoming a determining factor for those who are serious about ranking high so as get a bigger share of the organic traffic.

You are therefore encouraged to keep on building one way or exchange links on an ongoing basis to ensure that you dominate the first page of search results for the primary keywords that your target clients are likely to use.
